House Number Numerology: Is Your Address Helping You?
House numerology in plain words. Add the digits of your door number, find its meaning from 1 to 9, and what to do if the number and your life disagree.
By Velanomi editors · numbers calculated the way we describe in how we calculate · for you to think with, not advice.
House numerology takes the digits of your door number, adds them to one number from 1 to 9, and reads that number as the mood of the place. A flat number counts over the building, because it is the space you live in. The number does not control your life. It describes what the house tends to do well.
You know the feeling of walking into a house and liking it before anyone has said a word. And the other feeling, of a perfectly nice flat that somehow never let you sleep properly. House numerology is an old way of putting a name to that. It may help you understand why the kitchen feels like a meeting room, or why everyone you know ends up on your sofa.
How to find your house number
Take the number on your door. Add the digits until you get one number from 1 to 9. That is your house number.
A few rules make it tidy. If you live in a flat, use the flat number, not the building. If your number has a letter, the letter counts too, using the same letter chart we use for names: A is 1, B is 2, up to I, which is 9, then J starts again at 1. This is the same method we show on our calculation page, so nothing here is hidden.
| Your door says | Add | House number |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 7 | 7 |
| 24 | 2 + 4 | 6 |
| 118 | 1 + 1 + 8 = 10 → 1 + 0 | 1 |
| 12A | 1 + 2 + 1 (A) | 4 |
| Flat 5, 92 Elm Road | 5 (the flat, not the 92) | 5 |
| 29 | 2 + 9 = 11 | 11, read with the 2 beneath it |
If your digits add to 11, 22 or 33 we keep the number whole, because those are master numbers in our method. Read the master note and the plain number under it. A 29 is an 11 house with the quiet, paired feel of a 2.
Street names are not part of the house number. The number on the door is the part that is yours.
House numbers 1 to 9: what each tends to be for
Think of each number as a house with a temperament. Some houses are good at parties and bad at quiet. Some are good at saving money and bad at spontaneity. None of them is good at everything.
| House number | The house tends to be for | Feels like | What it may help to add |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Independence and starting things | A clean desk by a window | Warmth on purpose: lamps, a second chair |
| 2 | Two people, quiet routines | Tea for two, soft light | Order and daylight, because moods echo here |
| 3 | Company, creativity, conversation | A kitchen full of voices | One corner kept clear for focus |
| 4 | Order, saving, long stays | A solid oak table | Softness and a spontaneous evening |
| 5 | Change, guests, short chapters | A hallway with coats on every hook | A few fixed rituals, so you land somewhere |
| 6 | Family, beauty, care | The classic home, a pot on the stove | Sharing the load |
| 7 | Retreat, study, recovery | A reading chair and a plant | Company now and then, so quiet does not tip |
| 8 | Ambition, money, order | A well-kept front door | Tidy finances; the house tends to mirror them |
| 9 | Openness, art, endings | A place people pass through and remember | One or two people who stay |
A house number 1 tends to suit someone beginning something: a career, a life on her own terms. It supports drive and self-reliance, and it is less naturally cosy. Warmth has to be added on purpose. If you moved into a 1 after a break-up and found yourself oddly productive and a little cold in the evenings, this is the number for that.
A house number 2 tends to favour couples, close friendships and quiet routines. It invites cooperation and gentleness, and it can amplify moods, so light and order matter here. A 2 is the flat where a row feels louder than it was and a Sunday feels softer.
A house number 3 tends to fill with people, projects and noise in the best sense. It supports creative work and hosting. The counterweight is a corner kept clear for focus, because a 3 will happily eat every quiet hour you own.
A house number 4 tends to feel solid and grounding. It suits building a life carefully: savings, habits, long stays. Softness and spontaneity are the qualities worth inviting in. If you see 444 a lot and you live in a 4, you have a very steady set of walls around you.
A house number 5 tends to see comings and goings, short chapters and lively evenings. It suits transition and sociability rather than settling. It may help to anchor it with a few fixed rituals: the Friday dinner, the plant you water on Sundays.
A house number 6 is the classic home: warm, aesthetic, full of care. It supports family life and hospitality. The caution is over-responsibility, so share the load.
A house number 7 tends to be a sanctuary for thinking, reading and recovering. It suits people who need solitude, and it can feel too quiet for busy households. Books and plants belong here. A Life Path 7 in a 7 house is very happy and should remember to go out.
A house number 8 tends to support careers, businesses and the management of money. It favours order and quality. Keep the finances tidy, because the house tends to reflect them.
A house number 9 tends to be open, welcoming and a little transient, a place people pass through and remember. It suits creative and humanitarian lives, and it often marks the end of one chapter before the next. People do not always stay in a 9 for long, and they tend to remember it fondly.

Show me my numberWhen the house and your life disagree
Is your address helping you? Sometimes the number and the life you are trying to build point the same way. A woman starting a business in an 8 house, a young family in a 6, a writer in a 7. That tends to feel like the house is on your side.
Sometimes they pull apart. You want a quiet year and you live in a 3 with a door that never shuts. You want to settle and you live in a 5 where the lease is short. A single woman in a 6 can feel the house asking her to care for people who are not there yet.
None of this is a reason to move. Most of us choose the rent, the school and the commute, not the number. The useful thing is that once you know what the house is good at, you can lean into it or gently counter it. The 3 house gets one locked-door corner. The 5 house gets a ritual. The 6 house gets a houseplant and a friend on the sofa.
A note on numbers some people avoid
You may have heard that 4 is unlucky, or that 13 is. Some traditions avoid the 4 because of how it sounds in Chinese. Some numerologists flag 13, 14, 16 and 19 as karmic debt numbers, which in our method are read as lessons: 13 is about steady effort, 14 about restraint, 16 about honest relationships, 19 about accepting help.
A house number 13, then, is a 4 with a note about not skipping the work. A 16 is a 7 with a note about humility and truth. We do not treat these as bad. We treat them as houses with a subject.
What to do with this
Find your number, and write it down next to the personal year you are in. The two together tell you a lot about why this particular year in this particular place feels the way it does. A 9 year in a 9 house is a chapter ending on purpose. A 1 year in a 4 house is a fresh start with good bones.
Then do one small thing that matches the house or softens it. If your number is 1, 4, 7 or 8, the cooler, steadier numbers, add warmth: a lamp, a rug, an invitation. If your number is 3, 5 or 9, the lively, moving numbers, add an anchor: a shelf that stays the same, a weekly habit, a chair that is only yours. If your number is 2 or 6, the caring numbers, make sure some of the care comes back to you.
And please hold it lightly. A house number is for reflection, not a reason to sign or not sign a lease. The floors, the light and the rent matter more than the digits. But if you have lived somewhere that never quite fit, and the number turns out to be the opposite of what you needed, it is a small comfort to know it was not you.

FAQ
Do I use my flat number or the building number?
The flat. The flat is the space you actually live in. If you are in flat 12 of a building numbered 200, your house number is 1 + 2, which is 3. If you live in a whole house, use the door number.
What if my address has a letter, like 7B?
Add the letter using the name chart: A is 1, B is 2, C is 3 and so on up to I at 9, then J is 1 again. So 7B is 7 + 2, which is 9. If your number has no digits at all, only a name, we do not give a house number.
Does the postcode count?
No. Postcodes cover streets and towns, not your home. The house number is the digits on your own door, and in our method that is all we use.
My house number is a master number. What does that mean?
If your digits add to 11, 22 or 33, you live in a house with a master note. An 11 house is a 2 with more sensitivity, a 22 is a 4 with a larger plan, a 33 is a 6 with a wider circle of care. Read both the master note and the plain number, and take whichever fits.
Should I move because my house number is wrong for me?
No. A house number is a description, not a warning. If your house feels wrong, trust the feeling before the number. If it feels right and the number looks odd on paper, trust the house. Numerology is for reflection, not for deciding where you live.
